PLANCHEMAG / SPÉCIAL TESTS 2023 // RAISE 8.0 2023

FULL OF POWER

The Raise with medium-wide mast sleeve is more traditional in outline, with a longer boom length than the others, and has a pronounced profile up front and a nice leech opening. The camber is easy to place when rigging.

ON THE WATER: the Raise is heavier and bulkier (larger), but accelerates effectively at launch with a gently breathing leech that is pleasant to pump. This smoothness is accompanied by good overall stability in the low and mid range, making the sail reassuring and comfortable. It is a sail that can be flown "straight ahead" and performs well in all paces, with above average back hand support. Performance is on par with a freeride program, with balanced pull in stable winds and momentum at less than 10 knots. When the wind gets stronger or gusty, the back hand becomes more present, it becomes more physical, the profile moves a little more, which affects the board and the foil: you have to go to a smaller size faster than others. It prefers big trips in 3-4 bft with a good camber rotation, even if it is less maneuverable and light than others. Finally, the long boom produces a good pull on the back hand, which is suitable for windsurfing with fins, with an opening of the leech that releases the excess of wind: This is better appreciated than others.

VERDICT: More versatile than average (foil and windsurfing in addition), this Raise produces good overall stability in light winds and guarantees comfort and smoothness in freeride flying. With an omnipresent power and the momentum of a camber sail, which maintains the flight through wind holes.
